DESIGN PROCESS

RESEARCH

Each student spent time individually as well as within the group studying previous glass work conducted and the basic elements of glass design.

MATERIAL STUDY

Materials were gathered either by purchasing or gathering from local retailers rejected materials as we were given to peruse their junk piles. Upon the gathering of materials, student began to manipulate the material with only a small semblance of an idea what they hoped to accomplish. This is the truest and most raw way to understand how a material affects how the crafter can manipulate and create.

DESIGN

This, the longest phase of the design process involves categorizing the material study findings and attempting to allow those to influence the design of the final product.

PRODUCE

This production phase simply requires the time and energy to accomplish the goals stated throughout the designing of the end resultant.

Due to the fact that THE DESIGN COMPLEX is being created in real time as the students are producing their projects the display section is unable to be showcased at this time. Work will be displayed in the College of Architecture and Planning Building at Ball State University Wednesday May 1st from 10am-6pm. If you are unable to see the work at this time images will be uploaded to THE DESIGN COMPLEX after the live event!

Often times architecture students are thought to spend countless hours in their studios working on projects, pulling all nighters and just making a ruckus in general. This is the phase of the design process where this generally occurs. Production involves checking things off of your to-do list and working toward the end goal! In some ways the characters of THE DESIGN COMPLEX have spent a majority of their time in the production phase, working with their materials in order to produce.
